Brixton Market is a Grade II-listed street market shaped by London’s Afro-Caribbean community since the 1940s–50s. At Brixton Village, we upgraded infrastructure for 140 traders while converting first-floor storage into creative workspace, using roof lanterns to bring light and air into the constrained spaces above the market.

A mend-and-make-do approach retained existing fabric wherever possible, creating an economical, characterful intervention. New roof access and a terrace connect the market to its distinctive roofscape, adding an active layer above while respecting its listed structure and vibrant community.
